GW-WoW... Two entirely different worlds. GW-RL... Two entirely different dimensions. GW-GW2, should be ending up being the same world. When I bought factions and Nightfall, I was able to switch my tyrian characters from that continent to the new continents. WW1-WW2, different wars, different times, differents places, some of the same countries fighting in it. WW1-Star Wars, completely different. I'm sorry you can't /tiger anyone in real life, but your analogy is not correct. Yes I should be able to cross my tyrian chars over to GW2's new continent. I seriously doubt GW2 will be on a new world, or Universe.

Problem with this question exists in the idea how many of the old professions will they install into GW 2? That is of course if GW 2 happens like the big fat rumor it is; until an official statement can’t judge.

I seriously doubt that if they were to make another Guild Wars, they would allow character transfer. Period.
People are just not ready to leave their characters yet, they're too attached. ANet sees this. If they make a sequel too soon, it's gonna bomb unless it's completely new content - that's why Asheron's Call 2 was discontinued.
If they have character transfer, that means that GW2 will not have newer content. If it's not newer content, people will get bored of it easily and sales will go down.
I have yet to read a completely valid point as to why Character Transfer should exist.

I'm with Ferret.. I think Guildwars II is going to be a pay-per-month, classic MMORPG style game along the lines of Lineage and completely different. Importing characters would be pointless for a completely different game. :P
Like him too though I share the concern that the old Guildwars and its servers will be scrapped once GWII comes out.. But that ain't likely going to happen until at least 2010 anyways, so, enjoy the game while you can I guess

I think it would be a real bad idea to import characters, if it means u have access to skills, armor, storage etc.
GW2 should be a new game, the player base is getting diversified all the time and i think that having gw1 and 2 linked would only make it worse. No one can tell me no matter how much they liked any of the later chapters that prophecies was the best chapter when there was only one, I spent at least 10x the amount of time playing with real people then i do now.
I actually look forward to unlocking everything again, getting my characters ready for pvp etc etc, and it would be nice to be on a level playing field with everyone. As much as i like gw now, its stale compared to when there was just 1 chapter.
If it turned p2p i dont know if i would join in though, the primary reason for guild wars was that it wasnt.
and LOL @ all the Chicken Little's in the thread, yes the world will come to an end if u cant play your old characters

I am certainly glad you responded in a civilized manner Bryant Again. I see your point as for the newer content, but what if they do have new content? They technically could still transfer characters over.
As for Das Hip's pay per month, I doubt A-net will do that. Why the sudden change to PPM? If they follow the same methods of instances, they won't need to do the Pay per Month thing

If they "just add new content", then it seems like it would be a waste. They might as well just stay with the traditional build of Guild Wars.
For example: Asheron's Call 2 added only little new and different content from that of the previous game. It failed to gather a large player base, and the players from the original refused to subscribe to it because it was pretty much the same game with different graphics.
I don't want Guild Wars to come to that. I want the sequal to be fresh, new, and completely different. Otherwise, I'm going to be paying for the same game.
Also about the p2p: That's Guild Wars' main selling point - having no subcription fees.

If multiple races are the order of the day, carried-over characters will mean an unfair abundance of identical humans.

Hmmm it would be nice to be able to import your characters especially with the "old" skills and spells. As for armor and items and titles (except for materials aka ectos) I don't care if they were deleted, but I would mind if they deleted the known skills in which we wasted our time and money to buy (150+$).
I would say that GW2 could be on a different planet (since campaigns are different continents), and that we could with the existing character move away to the new world, new home (with our experience, meaning having the skills from GW1 with us) but as from the 1st campaign in GW2 it would be logical to start with low level.
Also they could have a twist in the last GW campaign where we would be forced to find a new home since this one got destroyed or something
And the whole new thing about the heros they should be imported too and PvP Balthazar unlocks should be imported too.

I would like it if i could bring my monk becuase then i wouldn't feel likes its been a waste of time...but then again bringin GW1 characters 2, im guessing it would be vise versa. If so...I don't want them to crossover especially if the new characters will becom overpowered and GW1 will relie on their abilities etc.
I think it should be able to link the 2 games but the characters and guild will be the same. You'll be able to speak in guild chat from either of the games and you could have a hall for each of the games. Player names will be based on how they are now. I dont see how this way wouln't work.
I think that when guild wars 2 is out, guild wars 1 servers should still be open.
OOOOOOOOORRRRR
How about once you've brought your character over, you can't return. that should make it interesting.

Well if they have to go so be it, but SKILLS SHOULD STAY - no matter if we would have some advantage over other people. GW Online Store would still be open

this is what we have now, just exansions If its a new game it needs a fresh start.. I for one would be happy to keep buying expansions of the current guildwars...."But" if they make a new one, with new races and new skills, It would be dumb to import your old toons.............like bringing all your cars over from Gran Tourismo 1 to Gran tourismo 2...The whole point of an new game is new content....I really hope that when they do release GW2 there will still be server support for GW1............as long as thats in place all is well.

Well the whole thing is mixed up. *pokes at Guilds and Guildmates*
I do agree that we shouldn't have any advantage over others, but this is still an online game. Maybe if we were able to gain our memory back (gain the skills from GW2) at the end of the first chapter in GW2. That way we would have to earn the new skills, etc... But as I've heard not everything is true from the Inquire thing so there may not be a GW2 *does a dance full of hope*
And still what about GW Online Store? It has all GW1 campaigns. WOuld it be ruined or somethign? I just can't imagine they would close it and replace with one other campaign.
And about the fees it would be silly to have since then everyone would go and play WoW instead. This is one of the reasons why GW is THE BEST online game out there

I think that it should be cool if you could transport your old char into GW2, but lose all your money, armor, weapons, XP... You just can play with your old char. And when you reach lvl20, you could also transport all your money, armor, weapons...

I vote yes to allowing us to import our old characters, but if that isn't possible then they need to give us a way to reserve ouroriginal characters names as I personaly would like to keep mine. To implement it you would need to have any of the Chapters from the original, and you would have to use your original E-Mail address to confirm ownership of the names. It should not be very hard to do as atm the names are locked to our E-Mail addresses. Another way to confirm ownership of a name would be to require at least one keycode from any of the chapters from the original. That should be a bit easier to do as those cannot be guessed at all, you will have to have the keycode to input it.

I agree that you shouldn't be able to bring your characters over, but maybe there should be some extra content for people with GW1 accounts. For example, give some account based title showing that you're an old player. Festival hats/armors could also be linked to the GW2 account and accessed by the player.
Another cool idea (assuming GW2 takes place after GW1) would be to add content into the lore about some of your characters from GW1 via conversations, signs, etc. If one of your character's had like a drunkard title or something, some dwarf somewhere might mention that characters name. A sign in GW2's Ascalon might mention your old character and how that person defeated the Lich or held back the Charr. I think it would be nifty.
Equipment should not be carried over. I doubt weapons will have the exact same stats, or even have the same, damage range/format in GW2. I personally would like to see something other than a 15-22 sword. I don't want GW2 to just be GW1 with different graphics and new characters.
One final thing I want to see in GW2 are buildings. I mean real buildings that can be entered. I feel that this is something that GW1 lacks. It would increase the size of towns and make them more interesting too.
